As time cannot be directly researched, one has to approach it in terms of categories of the mind which find their manifestation in the linguistic construction on a number of levels. A novel perspective is offered by considering both an option of temporality without time on the one hand, and manifestations of time category in gesture and signed language, and corpus-based data on the other. The present volume illuminates the area of time conceptualizations as contrasted with space, and conceptualized in terms of other domains of human experience. Aspects of these perspectives are confronted with findings in temporal cognition and corpus-driven insights.
The chapters show a thorough familiarity with both classical and most recent publications in the time domain, starting from a comprehensive coverage of anthropological, philosophical and linguistic writings, to psychology and corpus-based contributions.
The volume should be of interest to philosophers, linguists, (neuro) psychologists, computational and corpus specialists, translators, language teachers, and graduate students.
