A key aim of English World is to enable learners to use language actively from the start. The methodology of the course encourages communication in the classroom, backed up by a wide variety of practice exercises to reinforce reading and writing skills. It aims to give learners confidence in speaking natural English fluently and in writing accurately and appropriately for the purpose. There is systematic skills development, including phonics, spelling and a modern approach to acquisition of reading and writing skills throughout the course. Skills are clearly labelled and practised separately. Study skills and independent learning are taught implicitly through portfolios, projects and the use of the dictionaries. It is suitable for both teachers with limited preparation time in a whole-class, teacher-led environment but is flexible enough to be used by teachers with different teaching styles.
