When the young Scottish theologian George Low was sent to Shetland in 1774 to gather material for a description of these islands, he managed include to record a small list of everyday expressions from the Old Norse dialect descended from the original inhabitants Norse, who had been led to Shetland approx. 800 AD but died out completely in the 19th century. This is the old Nordic languages ??remind that for the first time as inadmissible in its entirety, starting with a short language historical overview, and all the words in the list are reviewed thoroughly, then follows a detailed analysis of the identified phonetic and grammatical features, which makes it possible to draw more specific and precise inferences about the old west Norwegian foot arts development and state of the art at the time than the previously accepted traditional performances have allowed. The book concludes with an extensive bibliography and a brief summary in English.
