Among the overviews of the oldest Germanic languages ??are often missed the Early Netherlandish. There is a maximum given him a very modest place under the name 'Altnieder Frankish'. As a result of the particular German historical linguistics of the 19th Century is considered as one of the most Altniederfr?nkische German dialects and not as a separate branch among the other continental West Germanic languages: Old Frisian, Old Saxon and Old High German. Another approach is possible and even desirable. Maurits Gysseling and Arend Quak in this volume show that the sparse material - mainly names and Wachtendonckschen Psalms - provide a sufficient basis to arrive at a reasonably developed phonology and morphology of Old Dutch. This book is thus not only an approach to further research of the Old Dutch as such. It also forms the basis for comparative purposes.
